Open Board Positions 2017-2018

The Board is currently seeking volunteers for two of the board positions. Responsibilities of these roles can be found below. If you are interested in filling one of these positions, please contact

  • Volunteer Coordinator

    • The Volunteer Coordinator works closely with Race Directors and event leads to ensure that Strider events have adequate volunteer support. The position’s primary responsibility is to update and maintain our online sign up page on After conferring with the Race Director or event lead to obtain specific position and timeslot needs, the Volunteer Coordinator will create an event on Often since many events are annual, the previous year’s sign up can be refreshed and modified as necessary for the current event. After a sign up is created the Volunteer Coordinator also communicates frequently with the Race Director to keep them up to date on volunteer numbers and needs. This usually consists of downloading a list from the online sign up and sending in an e-mail to the Race Director.

In addition to maintaining the online sign up portal, the Volunteer Coordinator also facilitates volunteer recruitment. This includes posting on the Striders Facebook and Facebook group pages, coordinating with the Communication Director to send out e-mails to the Striders requesting volunteers and working with contacts within the community – high school groups for example, to connect their volunteers with our events. Occasionally, letters of appreciation, or acknowledgement certifying an individual’s or group’s contributions to the Striders is requested and the Volunteer Coordinator writes and sends these on Striders letterhead. Other general responsibilities include attending monthly Strider Board meetings and supporting the HCS Weekly series as a race lead for one event each season.

  • Weekly Series Coordinator

    • The Weekly Series Coordinator administers these unique and informal races. Responsibilities include setting the schedule for each series and helping obtain the necessary permits, marking courses, organizing volunteers, and procuring series awards. Candidates must be able to attend events to help send out course marshals and organize the start/finish. The position of Weekly Series Coordinator includes a seat on the Striders’ Board.
