Mick Slonaker

After running cross country and track in high school, Mick took 25 years off from running. He was active doing other sports (basketball, football, golf, etc.) but didn’t run. Then he began running again at 42, ran his first marathon at 43, joined the Striders, and then watched his running improve rapidly. He has been named Strider Volunteer of the Year, Most Improved ROY, Master ROY (2X), and Grandmaster ROY (6X). He’s also been active in the club on many levels: President 3 years, VP 5 years, Race Director of Clyde’s 5 years, and Next Step coach (5K and marathon) 3 years. Mick was inducted into the Strider Hall of Fame in January 2008. Mick has been in many training groups through the years and has enjoyed training with his friends. Mick says: “We have many great people in the club. It has been fun being involved with those who wanted to improve their running to training with some of the faster runners.”

For the last 5 years (2007-2012), Mick lived overseas (2 years in Singapore and 3 years in Oslo, Norway). He had many “run-cations” racing in several countries (Singapore, New Zealand, Norway, Finland, Iceland, France, Germany, Austria, and Portugal). It was a fun way to see different countries and major cities.
