Selvi Rajagopal

Selvi is a dual-board certified Internal Medicine-Pediatrics physician with a focus in obesity medicine, for whom running has remained a lifelong passion. She discovered running as an 11-year old when her P.E. teachers recruited her for track and field in middle school. She ran the mile and 2-mile through her freshman year of high school before switching from running to tennis in her sophomore year to follow in the footsteps of her older brother and sister. She rediscovered her love of running in college and ran her first marathon in 2007 at age 19, finishing first in her age group at the Marine Corps Marathon in a time of 3:28. After a training hiatus during medical school and residency, Selvi returned to the distance running in 2017, when she completed the 2017 San Diego Rock n Roll Marathon in a time of 3:11:16, qualifying for the 2018 Boston Marathon. Following a 3:12:44 Boston Marathon finish in historically unfavorable wet and windy conditions, Selvi began adding speed work to her training regimen, with a notable PR of 1:23:31 and 2nd place finish in the National Women’s Half Marathon in May 2019. Since then, Selvi has ramped up her training with coach and Olympic Trials qualifier Kelly Calwa.
