Howard County Junior Striders - Spring Track
The Junior Striders Spring Track program is for runners in Kindergarten - 8th Grade and is for beginners and experienced runners, including both sprint and distance events. Runners that are interested in the shot put and long jump will have an opportunity to practice those events occasionally. To be fair to everyone we will ask you to make sure that your runner wants to run. Special running shoes (not spikes) to train in are encouraged for all the runners and are required for those in middle school. Racing shoes (spikes) are not required. Athletic attire should be worn at practice (shorts, t-shirt, sweats).
The runners will have an opportunity to do some or all of these:
- Participate in practice sessions with knowledgeable and experienced coaches
- Compete in meets with other junior runners and have the chance to earn ribbons or medals
- Become a member of the Howard County Striders and participate in some of their events
- Attend an end-of-year awards party
- Receive a participation award ribbon or medal
Practices are held twice weekly, in the evenings. Practices will include a warm up, stretching, drills, and a workout based on age, ability and event. Practice is held rain or shine, but if you are not comfortable with the weather, please feel free to not attend the practice that night. Practices are not required.
The program runs annualy from early April through early June.
