Training Programs
Get ready to rock ‘n roll this spring with The Next Step 10K/10M training program! The 11-week training session starts on Tuesday, March 29th at 6:30pm at Centennial High School track. The training is split between two different programs to cater to various running abilities and goals. The Next Step Builder Program focuses on those looking to move beyond 5K’s and break into the middle distance running events, while The Next Step PR Program focuses on seasoned runners with a solid mileage base and racing experience. The target races are the Baltimore Ten Miler or Dawson’s Father’s Day 10K in mid June. Both programs also work well as a lead into The Next Step Half/Full Marathon programs in July!
Note: If you're planning to participate in the Baltimore Ten Miler as your target race, be aware that this race does sell out & you should sign up early!
Next Step 10K/10M Builder Program
The Next Step Builder program is designed for the first time or experienced runner accustomed to running 5K distances and may have 5K and/or 10K racing experience. The program is to help prepare runners for their first race event through base building for endurance and speed development drills. You’ll not only complete the race with confidence and success, but you will be hooked for more!
Next Step 10K/10M PR Program
The Next Step PR program is for more experienced runners looking to set a new PR or break through a particular time barrier that just won’t seem to budge. Kick up your training a few notches and bust through those plateaus as you focus on improving running performance and efficiency through speed development drills and race strategy techniques. You won’t just cross the finish line with success, you will own it!
Take the Next Step!
An experience cadre of coaches will guide you through the training program with weekly group workouts and weekly coach feedback, and a no-nonsense training schedule designed to have you in peak condition come race day. Runners will be grouped by similar ability and goals, and submit weekly running logs for review.
The cost is $45 for current Howard County Striders members. If you’re not already a member, you can join here. Runners will need to attend the initial time trial of 2400m/2M and orientation meeting on Tuesday, March 29 so that we can assess each runner’s level and cover the objectives of the training program. To celebrate the hard work and training, a social is planned and each runner will receive a Next Step premium as a finisher's award!!
