Summer Striders - 2011

Schedule Updates

-Wednesday, July 13th - No trail run, instead, meet at Feet First Sports in the Hickory Ridge Village Center at 6:45pm to run from there.
-Thursday, July 14th - No HCC run instead, we'll get in our trail run at 6:45pm the usual Rockburn Park location, off of Landing Road.
-Wednesday, July 20th - No Summer Striders run instead, join us at the Striders-hosted Meet of Miles

If you want to train for the upcoming Cross-Country season, the Howard County Striders would love to have you run with them.

2011 SUMMER STRIDERS (PREPARING FOR XC)

Please read before deciding if you want to join.

MISSION STATEMENT: The Summer Striders is a resource designed for high school and college age runners pursuing excellence in cross country.

Three nights a week the coaches prescribe medium paced runs of 3 and 5 miles at the beginning of the program and increase the distance throughout the summer. The goal is to build a solid base so the runners body will be prepared for what their coaches have planned for them to do when the season begins in mid-August.

If you want to race on the track over the Summer the Striders have a Summer Track Team so email Coach Lang and look into that also; they are going to Disney for a meet the week of July 13-17!

A few of the local coaches and a few runners who participated in the Summer Striders program while they were in high school will coordinate the practice sessions starting Monday June 6 and ending Thursday August 4.

This is not a program for beginners but it’s definitely not just for the elite runners either. You need to be able to run 3 miles without stopping before you join the program. The plan is for everyone to run at least 5 miles at each practice during the second half of the Summer. We will encourage you to participate in as many practices each week as you can during the Summer of 2011 but feel free to join even if you can only make one practice a week or a week here and there. Come when you can, we know everyone can’t make every practice but please be committed to run at least 4 times a week.

Practices will be on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday starting at 6:45pm.
*Mondays we will meet at Oakland Mills High School by the track.
*Wednesdays will be trail runs at Rockburn Branch Park, off of Landing Road.
*Thursdays we will meet at Howard Community College in the gym parking lot.

We encourage you to consider 5 XC races we will host this Summer and the Father’s Day 8k.

You will receive a 10% discount off of shoes at Feet First – please make sure you have running shoes and if they are from last year they don’t count as you need new ones.

Each program participant will receive a Howard County Striders performance shirt.

Mail in registration before first day of practice if possible or bring it to the first practice you attend!
