10x5 50K Race |
| 01 September 2008 |
The 1st Annual 10x5 50K Race was held Labor Day, September 1st. Five hardy (or is it foolhardy?) runners set out to run a 5K race every hour on the hour for ten hours. Guest runners stopped by to run races in support of the ultra-marathoners. The five runners were Pat Huffman, John Price, Joe Hanle, Tom Green, and Greg Lepore.
The course was a very difficult two loop course with one long uphill and several sharp downhills. The runners ran every other 5K backwards to even out the hills. Pat Huffman gets a special mention for running all 10 races in the clockwise direction, which was definitely the harder direction. Guest runners stopping by included George Olean (ran the first 7 races!), Ben Stein, Dan Kirk-Davidoff, Paul Kirk-Davidoff, Marianne Myrtue, Becky Holtz, Bill Arbalaez, Eric Johnston, Doug Sullivan, Kenny Walker, Srini Rao, Conrad Fernandes and Shane Bogan. Times for the first race of the day ranged between 22:57 and 30:37. Times for the last race were between 24:55 and 36:45. John Price had the low time overall (3:56:34); his first 6 races were: 22:57, 22:45, 22:38, 22:22, 22:48, and 22:50; how's that for even splits?
Cumulative times for all 10 races:
John Price 3:56:34
Joe Hanle 4:17:11
Greg Lepore 4:40:14
Tom Green 5:26:58
Pat Huffman 5:27:20
The race director would like to thank the volunteers: Marilyn Lepore, Ruby Lepore, Molly Lepore, Joshua Lepore, Emma Lepore, Bob Spangler, Chelsea Hunter, and Ashleigh Hardin.
