Donna Wecker is a native of Howard County and ran indoor and outdoor track for Oakland Mills. Wanting to stay in shape, she has been a mom jogger for years, but just began real distance running about two years ago. In April of 2009, she joined the Next Step program with the Striders and now often does the Bagel Runs. She enjoys the new friendships and encouragement of running with a club, although her passion is trail running. She had the opportunity this past year to run with champion trail runner, Nancy Hobbs, in the Rocky Mountains and with champion mountain runners Herve Giraud-Sauveur and Isabelle Guillot in the French Alps. In her favorite movie, Chariots of Fire” she echos the line where Olympic runner Eric Liddel says, “When I run, I feel [God’s] pleasure”. The blessing of motion is made even more real since her sister is crippled by MS. As part of the race team, she looks forward to learning from and partnering with other committed runners.
