Striders Racing Team Requirements

In order to be eligible for the racing team, members must fulfill several requirements:

First and foremost, any individual to be considered for the racing team must be registered as a member of the Howard County Striders. Membership must be current in order to remain on the team.

All members must also successfully meet or exceed the established time standards for their age and gender category in at least two (2) separate races within a one year time span. The validity of these times will be determined by the acting racing team coordinator. The standards are as follows:

The racing team coordinator will monitor the status of the time standards to ensure that all team members continue to satisfy the standards.

Time standards are based on age-graded performances, using this calculator.
Women must exceed an age-graded percentile of 71.5%.
Men must exceed an age-graded percentile of 75%.
The racing team coordinator will monitor the status of the time standards to ensure that all team members continue to satisfy the standards.

In addition to meeting time standards, racing team members must participate and wear the team jersey in at least one local race within Howard County each year. However, it is strongly encouraged that members participate in as many local races as possible. Examples of local races include, but are not limited to: Clydes 10k, Metric Marathon, Knights of Columbus 10K, Damien's Run for Recovery, Police Pace 5k, Remembrance Run 5k, Run Through the Grapevine 8k, Women’s Distance Festival, and the RRCA club challenge. Among these, the RRCA club challenge is considered the most important race to participate in.

Racing Team members are also expected to volunteer for at least two (2) Howard County Striders/Bullseye Running events over the course of the year. These can include, but are not limited to: volunteering at weekly races, helping coach a Striders or Bullseye Running program, or volunteering for some aspect of a local race (registration/packet pickup, course marshaling, finish line management).

If you have successfully completed the above requirements and are interested in joining the racing team, please contact the racing coordinator, Carlos Renjifo.
