The finish times for the top three finishers were very fast. Eric Furst outran top competitors, Carlos Renjifo and Mike Colaiacovo in this final race of the HCS summer series. Awards were provided to series winners and baked treats were provided by Julie Trapp.

Ted Poulos and Robin Humphrey won the 2 mile race. Thirteen year old, Grant Demaree, was right up there with the more experienced runners finishing 4th. Eric Furst was well ahead of the field in the 6M event.

Wincopin Trail

Fifty-nine runners ran approximately 3.5 miles. The weather was hot and the scenery was beautiful. Much of the trail runs along the river. Much of the run was self-directed, requiring the runners to follow trail blazes. A few went off course. Mostly everyone had a great time. Eric Furst & Nicole Shouse took 1st place.

Runners of all ages (1 - 63 yrs) participated in the Howard County Striders
annual Meet of Miles event. Four 1 mile heats were run according to
expected finish times. There were 100M and 400M events for the youngest
runners. One year old, Nick Yarnevich, was all smiles with the crowd
cheering him on, as he raced down the 100 meter straightaway in 93 seconds.
Twenty runners ran the fastest heat (5:30 expected finish), with the top
ten times under 5 minutes.

Tunde Morakinyo and Alvin Yew were far ahead of the pack in their respective races. The youngest runners may have been the most impressive. Twelve year old, Erin Geoghan, won the 2M event with Brittany and Tiffany Lang not far behind. Eleven year old, Rebecca Dean (59:41), ran her longest race to date (6M), sprinting to the finish with her Dad. Grueling heat and humidity accompanied the runners.

The 1st race of the Summer Series featured a new 1M course at Swansfield. Evan Calvert and Lindsay Martin were the 1 mile victors. The 5K winners were Karsten Brown and Marquel Bowler. At the age of 10, Jessica Esposito has several years of running experience and finished 3rd place overall in the 1M event.
