Celestial 5K
August 25, 2004

The 3rd time is a charm. The race went off without a hitch, unlike the 1st year where the runners went off-course and the 2nd, when powerful thunderstorms surprised the runners.

Watch out for winner, 35 year old Mike Caolaiacovo. Mike is moving to the area and hopes to run other races. His win was particularly impressive, beating some fast competitors by a substantial margin. Frequent victor, Nicole Shouse, won the women's race. Eric Johnston (24:21) edged out Roger Calvert (24:24). Both runners are frequent, long time weekly race participants. Trophies were provided to all Summer Series winners at this final event. Homemade cakes were provided by Julie Trapp. They didn't last long.

This annual event required that each runner complete 10 laps, alternating with their partner. Tiffany Lang (10 yrs) and Alyssa Shouse (9yrs) held off the 2nd place runners whose average age was 39 ½ in the women’s event. Sue Ellen Morakinyo jokingly commented about being “beaten by a 9 year old.” Jason Grimm and Tom Williams won the men’s race. Laura Walls and Greg Koffel won the Co-ed event. Paul & Karen Shouse, rarely run together, as one of them is usually watching the brood. They fared well today with their 4th place finish.
